The purpose of this course is to provide the student with knowledge and clinical skills to safely and effectively implement and monitor treatment plans under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist. Emphasis will be on the use of clinical reasoning to apply rehabilitation interventions for musculoskeletal conditions. Students will demonstrate competency in performing range of motion exercises, strengthening programs and transfer techniques. Learners will develop and implement practical intervention strategies through training in the use of assistive devices and splinting techniques, as well as educating and instructing clients in energy conservation and joint protection strategies during ADL/IADL performance. Accessibility issues and their impact on occupational performance will be explored. Vocational rehabilitation including evaluations and return-to-work programming will be reviewed and discussed to support client participation and successful community reintegration.
